SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. — The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a multi-vehicle truck crash on June 4 that injured five people.
The crash happened at around 3 p.m. on Interstate 70 where a Freightliner tractor-trailer lost its brakes while traveling west near milepost 209. The truck hit another Freightliner, causing both vehicles to veer off the roadway. Troopers reported that the impact caused the second truck to overturn. During the crash, the trailer of Gamble’s truck struck an eastbound Toyota RAV4 before coming to rest against a Toyota Tacoma.
The driver of the first truck was identified as 57-year-old Leon Gamble.
Officials said four people sustained minor injuries, while a passenger in the second tractor-trailer suffered life-threatening injuries. EMS transported the injured individuals to an area hospital.
Authorities cited Gamble for careless driving causing bodily injury.
