NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio — An 83-year-old woman has died after a crash in May caused by a driver whose license had been suspended, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Judy K. Mizer, of West Lafayette, succumbed on June 7 to injuries she suffered in the May 13 collision.
The crash happened on U.S. Route 36 near the Interstate 77 South entrance ramp in Salem Township, Tuscarawas County, troopers said in a news release on Monday.
The accident occurred around 5 p.m. when a 26-year-old Cambridge man driving a Chevrolet Malibu attempted a left turn onto the entrance ramp and failed to yield to an oncoming Ford Fusion, according to the report.
Mizer was a passenger in the Fusion, which was driven by an 85-year-old man. Both were transported to Akron General Hospital with life-threatening injuries and placed in intensive care following the collision.
The Malibu driver sustained only minor injuries despite the severity of the collision. Troopers discovered his driver’s license had been suspended at the time of the crash.
The driver has been cited for the accident and found guilty.
The Tuscarawas County Prosecutor’s Office is now reviewing the case for additional charges following Mizer’s death.
