Jamie Spear tragically killed in Tybee Island multi-vehicle accident

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. – The City of Tybee Island announced on Monday afternoon that its Human Resources Director, Jamie Spear, died in a multi-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 80.

The accident happened at around 5:40 p.m. on June 7 near Fort Pulaski. The Chatham County Fire Department responded immediately. Six people were transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center following the crash.

Spear succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident, the city confirmed in its announcement.

The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate and has indicated that an official report will be released soon.

No additional details about the cause of the accident or the condition of other victims have been made available at this time.


ROLLOVER CRASH INVESTIGATION

A total of 7,418 passenger vehicle occupants died in rollover crashes in 2022, representing 29% of all passenger vehicle occupant deaths. Despite comprising only approximately 2.1% of all car accidents, rollover crashes disproportionately result in nearly 35% of all passenger vehicle fatalities.
