Sandy Stroud dies in Hesperia 4-vehicle crash, CHP investigating

HESPERIA, CA — October 25, 2026 A four-vehicle collision early Sunday morning on Ranchero Road claimed the life of a local resident, authorities confirmed.

The San Bernardino County coroner’s office identified the victim as Sandy Stroud, 53, of Hesperia. The crash happened around 5 a.m. at the intersection of Ranchero Road and Cataba Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a pickup truck—possibly a Lincoln—struck the rear of a Hyundai Palisade SUV while it was stopped at a traffic signal. Two other vehicles, a light gray/blue Buick Encore and a gray Hyundai sedan of undetermined model, were also involved. Officials have not yet determined which vehicle Stroud occupied.

At least one other person was flown by air ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment. The CHP’s Victorville office is leading the investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Traffic fatalities continue to rise nationwide, driven largely by behaviors such as speeding, impaired driving, and distraction—particularly cellphone use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recorded 8,055 motor-vehicle deaths in the first quarter of 2025 alone.

While law enforcement works to determine the precise cause and any liability in this collision, national legal analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, stresses the value of an independent review in cases such as this. “Beyond the important work already being done by officers, an experienced attorney can re-interview key witnesses, examine available surveillance video from the scene, and secure cellphone and texting records from any potentially responsible parties,” Bond explained. “Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and families need to make certain that critical evidence is gathered and reviewed promptly.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the outcome of the ongoing probe, relatives of Sandy Stroud may have grounds to pursue a wrongful-death action. Surviving family members in similar matters can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and related economic impacts that follow a fatal crash.

Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, noted: “Losing a loved one brings both profound emotional pain and real financial consequences. When another driver’s negligence is involved, families should speak with a wrongful-death attorney who can guide them toward the accountability and recovery they deserve.” He added that insurance carriers sometimes extend low offers or attempt to deny claims when claimants are unfamiliar with their legal options. “An attorney can safeguard those rights and help ensure families are not taken advantage of in cases such as this.”

Accident Injury News extends its condolences to the family and friends of Sandy Stroud.
