Michael Kocic Arrested After North Tonawanda Crash

NORTH TONAWANDA, NY — November 3, 2026 Three people suffered injuries following a multi-vehicle collision on River Road in North Tonawanda, Niagara County, on October 6, according to the North Tonawanda Police Department.

Authorities reported that a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and moving erratically along River Road before leaving the roadway. The vehicle struck a light pole and subsequently collided with another car.

Three occupants inside the second vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Two of the injured individuals have since been released, while another remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Following several weeks of investigation, police arrested 63-year-old Michael Kocic of Tonawanda on Tuesday. He was subsequently arraigned in North Tonawanda City Court.

Kocic faces charges of aggravated vehicular assault, assault, and driving while ability impaired by drugs in connection with the collision.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Authorities continue to address the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the reported driving behavior and suspected impairment that preceded the crash. The investigation focuses on the events that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike both a fixed object and another automobile.

National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, explains that impaired driving collisions can involve significant criminal and civil consequences. In cases such as this, investigators typically examine available evidence, including vehicle damage, witness accounts, police findings, and other information that may help establish how the collision occurred.

Bond also notes that criminal proceedings and civil injury claims are separate matters. Depending on the evidence and circumstances, injured individuals may have grounds to pursue compensation from parties found legally responsible for the collision.

Accident Injury News recognizes the importance of a thorough investigation in determining the circumstances of serious roadway incidents and identifying potential responsibility.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The three injured occupants may have legal options to seek compensation depending on the findings of the investigation and the circumstances surrounding the collision.

National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, explains that serious motor vehicle accidents can create financial and personal challenges for injured individuals. In cases such as this, potential damages may include emergency treatment, ongoing medical expenses, rehabilitation, lost earnings, and compensation for physical pain and emotional suffering.

Formica further emphasizes that evaluating an injury claim requires examining the available evidence, the extent of the injuries, and the financial impact on those affected. Insurance coverage and the circumstances establishing liability may also influence the outcome of a claim.

Accident Injury News will continue to emphasize the importance of accurate reporting and a fact-based review of serious motor vehicle collisions.
