Ricky Williams killed in San Antonio hit-and-run after crash

SAN ANTONIO, TX — October 3, 2026 A 70-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash Saturday night in San Antonio, according to police.

Ricky Williams was hit at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of Farm-to-Market Road 78, close to Binz Engleman Road. Authorities said the motorist involved in the collision did not remain at the location or stop to provide assistance.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene. Police continue working to determine who was driving the vehicle and locate the suspected hit-and-run driver.

FATAL HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

San Antonio police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian crash and are seeking information that could help identify the vehicle and driver involved.

Hit-and-run investigations can require investigators to examine physical evidence, roadway conditions, vehicle debris, surveillance footage, witness accounts and other available information. In cases such as this, determining what happened can be particularly challenging when the suspected driver leaves before authorities arrive.

National legal analyst Candice Bond said that an independent investigation can be important in fatal hit-and-run cases because evidence may need to be gathered and preserved quickly.

Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal, has noted that investigators and legal representatives may examine factors including roadway conditions, lighting, signage visibility and other circumstances surrounding the collision. Those details can help establish how the incident occurred and whether negligence may have contributed to the death.

Hit-and-run crashes are a significant concern nationwide. According to information cited in the original report, approximately 11% of all crashes involve a driver who leaves the scene. Drivers may flee for various reasons, including concerns about arrest, intoxication or driving without a valid license.

In cases such as this, identifying the responsible motorist remains an important part of the investigation, particularly because a family may need answers regarding the circumstances that led to their loved one’s death.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Williams’ surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful-death claim.

A wrongful-death action can potentially address certain losses associated with the death of a family member, including loss of companionship and other forms of emotional and financial harm, depending on the applicable law and circumstances of the case.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, has emphasized that families dealing with a sudden fatal accident can face significant emotional strain while also trying to understand their legal options.

In cases such as this, Formica explained that legal guidance can help a family monitor the official investigation and protect its interests while authorities work to determine what happened.

Any potential claim would depend on the facts established through the investigation, applicable Texas law and the family’s individual circumstances.
