Michael Dewall Critically Injured in Ontario County Collision

SENECA, NY — October 20, 2026 Michael Dewall, 60, of Stanley, was critically injured in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of State Route 245 and Number Nine Road in Ontario County, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 1 p.m. when a 2024 Mazda CX-5 traveling south on Number Nine Road reportedly failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with a westbound 2020 Ram pickup driven by Dewall.

Emergency responders found both drivers unconscious and worked to remove them from their vehicles. Dewall was transported by air ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

The Mazda’s driver, identified in subsequent local reporting as 67-year-old William Folts of Shortsville, died at the scene.

Authorities have not released a final determination regarding all the circumstances surrounding the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is examining the circumstances that led to the collision at Route 245 and Number Nine Road. Preliminary findings indicate that the Mazda driver failed to yield before entering the intersection, resulting in the impact with the pickup truck.

Investigators may examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence, witness accounts and other available information to establish how the crash occurred. The intersection remained closed for approximately three and a half hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.

National legal analyst Candice Bond, an experienced attorney and managing partner at Bond Legal, has emphasized that roadway conditions, visibility and lighting are among the factors that may warrant examination after a serious collision. In cases such as this, a detailed accident reconstruction may help investigators determine the sequence of events and assess whether additional factors contributed to the crash.

The sheriff’s office has not announced a final conclusion, and further findings may clarify the circumstances surrounding the collision.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Depending on the final investigation findings and the applicable law, Michael Dewall may have grounds to explore a personal injury claim arising from the crash. Any potential claim would depend on the available evidence, the determination of liability and the damages sustained.

National legal analyst Stefano Formica, an attorney and managing partner at Bond Legal, has highlighted the importance of understanding legal rights after a serious injury. In cases such as this, an injured person may need to consider medical expenses, lost income, rehabilitation costs and other losses associated with the collision.

Formica has also noted that legal representation can help injured individuals navigate insurance negotiations and evaluate settlement proposals. The outcome of any potential claim would depend on the specific facts, applicable state law and supporting documentation.

Accident Injury News will continue to follow developments as additional information becomes available.
