Markeitha Washington Killed in Jennings Rollover Crash: Police

JENNINGS, MO — October 9, 2026 — Markeitha Washington, 54, died in a three-vehicle collision Friday morning on Lucas and Hunt Road near Hord Avenue in Jennings, Missouri, according to the St. Louis County Police Department (SLCPD).

Police reported that a northbound vehicle sideswiped another northbound vehicle near Hord Avenue. Following the initial impact, the driver lost control, and the vehicle overturned into oncoming traffic before striking a southbound vehicle.

Officers responded shortly before 7:30 a.m. Washington, who was driving the southbound vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile girl who was traveling with her was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The 22-year-old woman driving the vehicle that overturned also died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle involved in the initial sideswipe was not injured.

The SLCPD Bureau of Crimes Against Persons and accident reconstruction detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Police have asked anyone with relevant information to contact the department.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Investigators are working to establish how the initial sideswipe occurred and what caused the vehicle to lose control and overturn into opposing traffic. The sequence of impacts, vehicle positions, roadway conditions and any available witness accounts may help clarify the events leading to the crash.

Candice Bond, a national legal analyst and managing partner at Bond Legal, has highlighted the importance of an independent investigation in serious vehicle collisions. In cases such as this, a detailed review of available evidence can help establish the sequence of events and identify factors that may have contributed to the crash.

Accident reconstruction specialists may examine physical evidence, vehicle damage, photographs and other available records to help determine how the collision unfolded. The official findings will be important in assessing the circumstances and any potential responsibility. No determination of fault should be made before the investigation is complete.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the investigation’s findings and applicable Missouri law, the surviving family members of those killed may have grounds to explore a wrongful-death claim.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has discussed the emotional and financial consequences families can face after losing a loved one in a traffic collision. In cases such as this, potential damages may include funeral expenses, lost financial support and the loss of companionship, subject to applicable law and the circumstances of the case.

A wrongful-death attorney can review the available evidence, explain the legal options that may apply and help eligible family members understand insurance coverage and potential compensation. Any claim would depend on the facts established through the investigation and the relevant legal requirements.
