LUBBOCK, TX — September 25, 2026 Mario Murillo, 68, died from injuries sustained in a two-pickup truck collision at the intersection of 130th Street and Upland Avenue in South Lubbock, according to the Lubbock Police Department (LPD).

Police responded to the crash at approximately 3:20 p.m. on September 25. Preliminary findings indicated that one pickup truck failed to stop at a stop sign before colliding with another truck driven by Murillo.

Murillo was hospitalized following the collision and later died on October 10. Authorities subsequently notified the LPD Major Crash Unit of his death. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Investigators are examining the circumstances that led to the collision, including the reported failure to stop at the intersection. Officials have not announced a final determination regarding responsibility, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney and national legal analyst, has emphasized the importance of a thorough, independent investigation in cases such as this. Relevant evidence may include witness accounts, vehicle damage, roadway conditions, visibility, and available surveillance footage. Accident reconstruction specialists may also help investigators establish how the vehicles collided.

A detailed review of the available evidence can help clarify the sequence of events and determine whether negligence contributed to the crash. Investigators’ findings will be important in establishing the circumstances surrounding Murillo’s death.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the investigation’s findings and applicable law, Murillo’s eligible surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Potential damages in qualifying cases can include loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other legally recognized losses arising from a fatal collision.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has highlighted the importance of protecting families’ legal rights following the loss of a loved one. In cases such as this, reviewing the official findings and preserving relevant evidence may help families understand their available legal options.

Any potential claim would depend on the evidence, the determination of liability, and the requirements of applicable law. No final conclusion about fault has been announced in connection with this collision.
