Mabel Turner Killed in Spartanburg Crash, SCHP Says

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC — October 13, 2026 Mabel Turner, 95, died on October 10 from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 221 near Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The crash occurred on October 5, according to reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities reported that a 2011 Ford Explorer was traveling south on U.S. 221 at approximately 1 p.m. when its driver attempted to turn left onto the entrance ramp for eastbound Interstate 26. During the turn, a northbound 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt struck the Explorer on its right side.

Turner was riding as a passenger in the Explorer. Emergency medical personnel transported her and the Explorer’s driver to a hospital following the collision. The Cobalt’s driver was also taken to a hospital for treatment.

Turner died on October 10 after sustaining injuries in the crash. Officials have not released further details about the medical conditions of the other people involved.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the collision, including the events surrounding the turn onto the interstate entrance ramp.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is examining the circumstances of the October 5 collision near U.S. 221 and Interstate 26. Investigators may review vehicle movements, roadway conditions, witness accounts and other available evidence to establish how the crash occurred. No final determination of fault has been reported.

National legal analyst Candice Bond has discussed the importance of a thorough investigation in serious motor vehicle collisions. In cases such as this, reviewing physical evidence, vehicle damage and available witness statements can help clarify the sequence of events. Accident reconstruction may also assist investigators when the available evidence does not fully establish how a collision unfolded.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the investigation’s findings, eligible family members may wish to explore whether a wrongful death claim is available under South Carolina law. Potential claims depend on the established facts, applicable legal requirements and the parties’ respective responsibilities.

National legal analyst Stefano Formica has emphasized in similar fatal-accident cases the importance of protecting affected families’ legal rights and understanding the options available to them. In cases such as this, a legal review may examine the investigation findings, relevant insurance coverage and documented losses. Any potential recovery would depend on the evidence and applicable law.
