Kendrick Ewing Killed in Waco Pedestrian Crash, Police Say

WACO, TX — October 5, 2026 A 58-year-old man lost his life early Monday when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a roadway in Waco. Kendrick Ewing was hit by a Ford truck around 4 a.m. on the Interstate 35 frontage road near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to Waco police.

Officers responded to the scene shortly after 4 a.m. and found Ewing had been pronounced dead at the location. Authorities stated the driver of the truck has been cooperating fully with investigators. No arrests have been reported in connection with the incident. Additional details surrounding the circumstances of the collision were not immediately released.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Pedestrian fatalities involving larger vehicles such as pickups and SUVs have climbed noticeably in recent years. Data from the Governors Highway Safety Association shows that light trucks were linked to 54 percent of pedestrian deaths in 2023 where vehicle type was identified, up from earlier levels and well above the share attributed to passenger cars.

In Texas, the Department of Transportation recorded 3,881 total traffic fatalities in 2021, including 725 pedestrian deaths—a 4 percent rise from the prior year. National legal analysts emphasize that thorough, independent examinations remain essential after incidents of this nature.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst focused on pedestrian cases, has noted that pedestrians generally hold the right of way when crossing streets or intersections, whether or not a marked crosswalk is present. In cases such as this, she stresses the value of a detailed independent review conducted by experienced counsel to safeguard the rights of surviving family members. Bond has explained that assembling the proper investigative resources is critical to establishing any potential negligence and building a clear record of what occurred.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal and another national legal analyst, has observed that drivers almost always carry a duty to yield to pedestrians. Families facing the sudden loss of a loved one in a traffic incident may have the option of pursuing a wrongful death claim under applicable law.

Formica has outlined that recoverable damages in such matters can include lost income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral costs, and emotional distress. He has further cautioned that insurance carriers sometimes press for rapid, low-value settlements. In cases such as this, an attorney can serve as a steady advocate, helping families navigate the process with care while working to secure fair compensation and ensure their interests are fully protected.

Accident Injury News extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Kendrick Ewing.
