LATIMER COUNTY, OK — October 3, 2026. An 83-year-old Wilburton resident lost her life Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 270 near Southwest 110th Road.

Kay Quinn was a passenger in a northbound vehicle on U.S. 270 when another vehicle turned left from Southwest 110th Road onto the highway and was struck on the driver’s side around 2:55 p.m., according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. FATAL TWO-VEHICLE CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Passengers like Quinn die in motor-vehicle crashes every day, and fault often does not rest with them. National data from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) recorded 33,654 fatal crashes in 2018 that claimed 36,560 lives—roughly 11.2 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.13 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News, stresses that official police work alone is rarely sufficient. “In cases such as this, an independent investigation by an experienced attorney must begin immediately to preserve critical evidence and safeguard the rights of those affected,” Bond explained. Road conditions, visibility, lighting, and other environmental factors frequently play a role and require careful scrutiny. Bond added that accident-reconstruction specialists are sometimes brought in to reconstruct the sequence of events, gather physical evidence, and build a clear picture of liability—steps that can prove essential when families later seek compensation for medical costs, lost support, or other damages.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation, the family of Kay Quinn may have grounds to pursue a wrongful-death claim. Survivors in similar situations can seek recovery for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress caused by a sudden, catastrophic crash.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, noted the heavy emotional toll these losses impose. “The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” Formica said. “We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. In cases such as this, a wrongful-death attorney monitors the official investigation, protects legal interests, and helps ensure that any available remedies are fully explored.”

Accident Injury News extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Kay Quinn.
