Karen Allen seriously hurt in Middle Island pedestrian accident

MIDDLE ISLAND, NY — October 14, 2026 Karen Allen, 75, suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Church Lane in Middle Island, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. The collision occurred at approximately 6:49 p.m. in front of 5 Church Avenue.

Police reported that Jocelyn Negron Harris, 21, of Shirley, was driving a 2021 Mitsubishi southbound on Church Lane when the vehicle struck Allen, who was in the roadway. Allen was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Harris was not injured in the incident. Authorities impounded the Mitsubishi for a safety inspection as detectives continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are working to establish the circumstances that led to the pedestrian collision on Church Lane. The vehicle’s impoundment for a safety check may assist investigators in examining its condition and identifying any potential mechanical issues relevant to the crash.

Investigators may also review available physical evidence, roadway conditions, visibility, vehicle movements and witness accounts to develop a clearer understanding of how the collision occurred. These are general investigative considerations; authorities have not publicly confirmed the cause of the crash or identified any contributing factors.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may become available as detectives continue their work.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pedestrians who sustain serious injuries in vehicle collisions may have legal options for pursuing compensation when evidence establishes that another party’s negligence contributed to the incident. Depending on the circumstances, a potential claim may involve medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost income and other losses associated with the injuries.

National legal analysts Candice Bond and Stefano Formica have discussed the importance of investigating injury collisions and evaluating potential claims. In cases such as this, a thorough review of the available evidence can help clarify whether a driver or another responsible party failed to exercise reasonable care.

Relevant evidence may include police reports, vehicle inspection findings, witness statements, photographs, medical records and any available video footage. These materials can help establish the sequence of events, document the extent of the injuries and determine whether negligence played a role.

Formica’s general legal analysis also highlights the importance of assessing the full scope of an injured person’s losses before considering a settlement. Medical treatment, future care needs, recovery time and the impact of an injury on everyday activities may all be relevant when evaluating a potential claim.
