Julio Rodriguez killed in Terrell pedestrian crash, TPD says

TERRELL, TX — October 04, 2026 A 24-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle late Sunday night on Dixon Street in Terrell, according to the Terrell Police Department.

Julio Rodriguez, a Terrell resident, was walking in the 400 block of Dixon Street when a vehicle hit him at approximately 11:57 p.m., police said.

Rodriguez sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision. Emergency responders transported him to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Forney, where he was later pronounced dead.

The motorist involved in the crash remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators. Authorities have not released the driver’s identity.

Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian collision, including the events immediately preceding the impact.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Terrell Police Department is investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. Investigators may examine roadway conditions, lighting, visibility, traffic controls, vehicle positioning and other evidence to establish how the collision occurred.

Pedestrian crashes remain a significant concern across the United States. According to data cited by the Governors Highway Safety Association, approximately 3,304 pedestrians were killed after being struck by drivers during the first half of 2024.

National legal analyst Candice Bond has noted that thorough evidence collection is particularly important in pedestrian accident investigations. In cases such as this, investigators may need to evaluate whether roadway design, signage, lighting or other environmental conditions contributed to the incident.

Bond has also explained that some pedestrian cases require accident reconstruction specialists to establish the sequence of events. Such analysis can help determine factors such as the vehicle’s movement, the pedestrian’s position and the conditions present at the time of impact.

A complete investigation can therefore be important not only for determining what happened but also for identifying whether negligence or another contributing factor played a role in the collision.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

In cases such as this, surviving family members may have the right to explore a wrongful-death claim depending on the facts established by the investigation.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has noted that drivers generally have a responsibility to exercise reasonable care around pedestrians and yield when required by law. Where a driver’s negligence contributes to a fatal pedestrian collision, eligible family members may potentially pursue compensation.

Potential damages in a wrongful-death case can include losses associated with funeral and burial expenses, lost income, loss of companionship, emotional suffering and other financial or personal losses recognized under applicable law.

The circumstances of every case are different. Evidence such as the police investigation, witness accounts, vehicle information, roadway conditions and accident-reconstruction findings can become important when determining whether a legal claim exists and what damages may be recoverable.

Formica has also emphasized that families dealing with a fatal accident may face pressure from insurance companies while they are still coping with their loss. In cases such as this, obtaining appropriate legal guidance can help a family understand its rights and evaluate any proposed settlement before making a decision.
