Juan Rivera Zepeda Killed in Fresno County Crash, CHP Says

FRESNO COUNTY, CA — October 17, 2026 Juan Rivera Zepeda, a 33-year-old resident of Tulare, died in a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Jensen and Brawley avenues in Fresno County on Saturday afternoon, according to reports citing the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The crash occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. and involved a Ford Fusion, a Volkswagen and a Ford F-150. Zepeda was a passenger in the Ford Fusion and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to preliminary reports, the Fusion was traveling south on Brawley Avenue, while the Volkswagen was heading west on Jensen Avenue and the Ford F-150 was traveling east on Jensen Avenue.

The Volkswagen struck the driver’s side of the Fusion, and the F-150 subsequently collided with its passenger side. The circumstances surrounding the Fusion’s entry into the intersection have not been fully established.

Six other people involved in the collision were transported to a hospital with injuries ranging from moderate to major. Authorities have not identified alcohol or drugs as suspected contributing factors, and the investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal collision at Jensen and Brawley avenues.

Investigators are examining the sequence of events involving all three vehicles, including whether the Ford Fusion stopped before entering the intersection. Brawley Avenue has a stop sign at the intersection, while Jensen Avenue does not, according to published reports.

Determining how the vehicles approached the intersection and whether any driver failed to exercise reasonable care will be important in establishing the cause of the crash. Investigators may consider physical evidence, vehicle damage, witness statements, roadway conditions and any available surveillance footage.

Candice Bond, a national legal analyst, has discussed the importance of thorough independent investigations in serious motor vehicle collisions. In cases such as this, a comprehensive review of the available evidence can help clarify the sequence of impacts and identify any factors that may have contributed to the incident.

The CHP has not yet publicly established responsibility for the collision. The findings of the ongoing investigation will be important in determining whether any traffic violations or other acts of negligence played a role.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Juan Rivera Zepeda may have grounds to explore a wrongful death claim if the investigation establishes that another party’s negligence contributed to the fatal collision. Any potential claim would depend on the evidence, applicable California law and the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A wrongful death claim may allow eligible surviving family members to seek compensation for qualifying losses, which can include funeral and burial expenses, lost financial support and the loss of companionship. The availability and value of any recovery depend on the facts of the case and the damages recognized by law.

Stefano Formica, a national legal analyst, has highlighted the importance of understanding legal rights and insurance issues following serious accidents. In cases such as this, reviewing available insurance coverage, preserving relevant evidence and understanding the potential claims process can help affected families make informed decisions.

The six people injured in the collision may also wish to understand their legal options if evidence shows that another party was responsible for their injuries. Potential compensation in an eligible personal injury claim can include medical expenses, lost income and other legally recoverable damages.
