Joshua Bellamy charged after fatal Peoria County UTV crash

PEORIA, IL — October 24, 2026 A 50-year-old woman died Saturday night after a utility task vehicle (UTV) overturned on private property in Peoria County, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office. The driver, identified as 52-year-old Joshua Bellamy of Peoria, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and aggravated DUI.

Deputies reported that the UTV was carrying four occupants and traveling on private property in the 5600 block of North Kickapoo-Edwards Road. At approximately 11 p.m., the vehicle reportedly left a paved driveway or path, struck a wooden post and rolled onto its side.

The woman became partially trapped beneath the overturned vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Peoria County Coroner’s Office had not publicly identified her at the time of the report.

According to authorities, Bellamy showed signs of impairment and declined field sobriety and chemical testing. Investigators subsequently obtained a search warrant to collect blood and urine samples as part of the ongoing investigation.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal UTV crash. Investigators will need to establish the sequence of events, assess the vehicle’s movements and examine available evidence to determine what contributed to the rollover.

National legal analyst Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, has emphasized that impaired-driving incidents can result in criminal proceedings as well as potential civil claims. In cases such as this, an independent review of the evidence may help establish whether negligence contributed to the incident and clarify the circumstances surrounding the fatal injuries.

Relevant evidence may include witness accounts, vehicle inspection findings, toxicology results and other information gathered by investigators. The results of the investigation will be important in determining the facts and any potential civil liability.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the investigation’s findings, the deceased woman’s eligible family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim against a legally responsible party. Such claims can potentially seek compensation for funeral expenses, loss of companionship and other legally recoverable damages, subject to applicable law and the evidence.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, has highlighted the importance of protecting families’ legal interests following fatal accidents. In cases such as this, legal counsel may help relatives understand their options, review available evidence and assess applicable insurance coverage while the official investigation proceeds.

Any civil claim would be separate from the criminal charges against Bellamy. Liability and eligibility for compensation have not been established, and the outcome will depend on the evidence and applicable law.
