John Griggs arrested after Randolph County rollover crash

CLIFTON HILL, MO — November 1, 2026 An 18-year-old Ashland man was arrested following a rollover collision north of Clifton Hill that left a passenger seriously injured, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities reported that a northbound pickup truck was traveling along County Road 1130 when the driver lost control at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle failed to remain on the right side of the roadway, departed the road and overturned.

A 19-year-old passenger from Salisbury sustained serious injuries in the crash. Emergency responders transported the passenger to Moberly Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Troopers identified the driver as John Griggs, 18, of Ashland. He was not injured in the incident. Following the investigation at the scene, authorities arrested Griggs on suspicion of felony DWI causing serious physical injury and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

DWI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the rollover, including the driver’s alleged impairment and the events that caused the pickup to leave County Road 1130.

Driving under the influence can create serious dangers for motorists, passengers and other road users. When an impaired-driving incident results in significant injuries, investigators may examine the driver’s conduct, available evidence and the sequence of events leading to the collision.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News, explains that impaired-driving collisions can involve both criminal and civil legal considerations.

In cases such as this, Bond notes that a driver suspected of operating a vehicle under the influence may face criminal prosecution when the incident results in serious physical injuries. Separately, injured individuals or their families may have the option to explore a civil claim against a potentially responsible party, depending on the evidence and circumstances.

The criminal investigation and any potential civil proceedings are separate matters, and the findings of the authorities will be important in determining the circumstances surrounding this collision.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The passenger who suffered serious injuries may face medical treatment, rehabilitation and other expenses associated with the crash. The full extent of the injuries and any long-term effects have not been disclosed.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News, explains that personal injury claims may account for several types of losses following a serious motor vehicle collision.

In cases such as this, Formica notes that potential compensation may involve emergency medical expenses, ongoing treatment, future healthcare needs, lost earnings and other documented losses. Physical pain and emotional distress may also be considered when evaluating an injury claim.

He further emphasizes that insurance companies may closely examine the circumstances of a collision and the documentation supporting an injured person’s losses. Medical records, treatment history, accident reports and other available evidence can play an important role in assessing a potential claim.

Any determination of liability or compensation would depend on the investigation, supporting evidence and applicable law.
