Glen Letellier Killed in Highway 71 Semi-Truck Crash: MSP

CHRISTIANIA TOWNSHIP, MN (October 5, 2026) Glen Edward Letellier, an 80-year-old resident of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, died following a collision between his passenger vehicle and a semi-truck on Highway 71 in Jackson County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol (MSP).

The crash occurred at approximately 6:53 p.m. near mile marker 19 in Christiania Township. Investigators reported that Letellier was attempting to turn southbound onto Highway 71 when his vehicle collided with a northbound 2015 International semi-truck.

Letellier sustained fatal injuries in the collision. The driver of the semi, a 24-year-old man from Plymouth, Indiana, was not injured, according to the crash report.

Authorities reported that Letellier was wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred. The roadway was dry at the time of the crash.

The Minnesota State Patrol documented the incident and provided the initial account of the collision. Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the crash were not included in the initial report.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the fatal collision to establish the circumstances that led to the crash. Investigators may examine vehicle movements, the sequence of events at the intersection, available witness accounts and other evidence to clarify how the two vehicles collided.

Candice Bond, a national legal analyst and managing partner of Bond Legal, has emphasized in previously published commentary that prompt, independent investigations are important in complex commercial vehicle crashes. In cases such as this, a thorough review may involve examining vehicle damage, physical evidence from the scene, driver records, trucking company documentation and other relevant materials.

Commercial truck investigations can require additional scrutiny because multiple factors may contribute to a collision. Depending on the evidence, investigators may review driver conduct, vehicle maintenance records, operating logs, visibility, road conditions and whether applicable safety requirements were followed.

These are general investigative considerations, not confirmed findings about the cause of the Highway 71 collision. The available information does not establish fault or identify a specific contributing factor.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Following a fatal collision, eligible surviving family members may have the option to pursue a wrongful death claim if evidence establishes that another party’s negligence contributed to the death. Any potential claim involving Letellier would depend on the findings of the investigation and the applicable law.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has previously highlighted the importance of protecting families’ legal rights after a fatal accident. In cases such as this, legal counsel may help eligible family members understand the investigation, assess potential liability, identify available insurance coverage and determine whether a civil claim may be appropriate.

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, recoverable damages in a wrongful death case may include certain financial losses, funeral expenses and losses associated with the death of a family member. Eligibility and the types of damages available vary by case.

No determination of liability or entitlement to compensation has been established in the information currently available about this crash.
