Gabbrielle Pousset killed in Austin pedestrian accident, APD says

AUSTIN, TX — November 1, 2026 A 25-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 35 in Austin, according to the Austin Police Department.

The victim, identified as Gabbrielle Pousset, was involved in a pedestrian collision shortly after midnight Sunday in Travis County.

Police said officers were dispatched at approximately 12:20 a.m. to the 8000 block of North Interstate 35 Southbound following reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Pousset sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Incident Location

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Austin police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian collision. Investigators will likely review available evidence, including roadway conditions, lighting, visibility, vehicle movements and other factors that may have contributed to the incident.

Accident Injury News notes that pedestrian crashes remain a significant roadway safety concern across Texas. According to state transportation data cited in the original report, Texas recorded 6,095 pedestrian-related crashes in 2024, leaving 772 people dead and another 1,455 seriously injured.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News, explained that a comprehensive investigation is important in fatal pedestrian cases. In cases such as this, examining the surrounding environment, road conditions and visibility can help investigators establish how the collision occurred.

Bond also noted that accident reconstruction specialists may be brought in when additional technical analysis is necessary. Reviewing physical evidence and other available information can help clarify the sequence of events and identify factors relevant to determining responsibility.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pousset’s surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim if evidence establishes that another party’s negligence contributed to the fatal collision. Potential damages in such cases may include funeral and burial expenses, loss of companionship, emotional suffering and other legally recoverable losses.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News, explained that drivers generally have a responsibility to exercise appropriate care around pedestrians and comply with applicable traffic laws.

In cases such as this, a thorough review of the evidence can help determine whether a driver’s actions or other circumstances contributed to the incident. Formica also emphasized that families pursuing wrongful death claims may benefit from understanding their legal rights and available options.

He further noted that insurance settlement discussions can be challenging for families following a fatal accident. Evaluating the available evidence and potential damages is important when determining whether a proposed settlement fairly addresses the losses suffered by surviving family members.
