Eestan Starkey Dies After Motorcycle Crash on Adams Lane

ZANESVILLE, OH — October 13, 2026 A fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger car claimed the life of a 21-year-old Zanesville man on Tuesday evening along Adams Lane near Somers Street, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).

Authorities identified the motorcyclist as Eestan Starkey of Zanesville. Preliminary information indicates that the crash occurred at approximately 6 p.m. when a southbound 2007 Toyota Yaris, operated by a juvenile driver, collided with Starkey’s northbound 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle.

According to investigators, the Toyota traveled off the right side of the roadway while navigating a curve before crossing the centerline and striking the motorcycle. Starkey was pronounced dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. Officials have not released additional information about potential citations or injuries involving the other driver.

The Falls Township Fire Department, Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, Muskingum County Coroner’s Office, Zanesville Police Department and Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office assisted at the scene.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal collision to determine the events that led to the Toyota crossing into the motorcycle’s path. Investigators may examine roadway conditions, vehicle damage, driver actions and other available evidence to establish how the crash occurred.

In motorcycle collisions, determining the sequence of events is particularly important because riders have considerably less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles. An independent review of the available evidence may also help clarify whether negligence or a traffic-law violation contributed to the incident.

National legal analyst Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, has highlighted the vulnerability of motorcyclists and the importance of thoroughly investigating serious roadway collisions. In cases such as this, an independent investigation can help establish the facts, identify potentially responsible parties and protect the legal interests of the victim’s family.

The investigation’s findings may help clarify whether the collision resulted from a driving error, failure to maintain control, an unsafe roadway maneuver or another contributing factor. No final determination of fault should be made before the available evidence has been reviewed.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the findings of the investigation and the applicable law, Starkey’s eligible surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim if negligence contributed to the fatal collision.

Such claims may seek compensation for losses recognized under applicable law, potentially including funeral and burial expenses, lost financial support, loss of companionship and other legally recoverable damages. Eligibility and the types of available compensation depend on the circumstances of the case and Ohio’s wrongful death laws.

National legal analyst Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, has emphasized the importance of protecting families’ legal rights following fatal accidents. In cases such as this, a wrongful death attorney may review the crash investigation, assess available evidence, explain the family’s legal options and help determine whether a civil claim is appropriate.

The legal process is separate from the highway patrol’s investigation. Any potential claim would depend on the evidence establishing negligence, the relationship between the parties, applicable legal requirements and the losses suffered by eligible beneficiaries.
