Deborah Rasmussen hurt in Hwy 52 multi-vehicle crash, Iowa

WINNESHIEK COUNTY, IA — October 9, 2026 A 71-year-old Calmar woman was transported to a hospital after a three-vehicle collision on Highway 52 Friday afternoon, Iowa State Patrol officials confirmed.

Deborah Rasmussen suffered injuries when a southbound 2020 International LT625 semi-truck struck the rear of her 2017 Ford Escape around 3:25 p.m. The impact shoved the Ford into the back of a stopped Decorah Community School District bus whose lights were flashing. Rasmussen was taken to Winneshiek Medical Center with injuries that were not detailed in the initial report. All 19 students aboard the school bus were unharmed.

The crash remains under active investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Millions of Americans sustain injuries in traffic collisions every year, many of which produce lasting physical and financial effects. Federal data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that roughly 2.44 million people were injured in roadway crashes in 2023, a modest rise from the previous year, with the injury rate holding steady at 75 per 100 million vehicle miles traveled.

While authorities continue examining the precise sequence of events and any potential liability, national legal analysts stress the value of a separate, thorough review. Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News, explained that independent counsel can expand on official findings by re-interviewing witnesses, reviewing any available surveillance footage, and obtaining phone or messaging records from involved parties. In cases such as this, she noted, an attorney also serves as a steady guide for the injured person and their family, helping them navigate medical and legal steps while safeguarding their rights.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Depending on the final determination of fault, Deborah Rasmussen may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, observed that the aftermath of a serious crash frequently disrupts daily life—family routines, work, finances, and overall well-being. He emphasized that securing legal representation early allows an attorney to handle negotiations with insurers. In cases such as this, Formica said, insurance carriers often press for rapid, low-value settlements; experienced counsel works to ensure the injured party receives fair consideration of medical costs, lost income, and other damages.

Accident Injury News extends its thoughts to Deborah Rasmussen and her family.
