Debbie Westfall killed in Highland County semi-truck collision

HIGHLAND COUNTY, OH — October 21, 2026 Debbie Westfall, 60, of Lynchburg, Ohio, died Wednesday afternoon after her Nissan Rogue collided with a semi-truck on U.S. Route 62 near Custer Road in Highland County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).

Authorities reported that Westfall was traveling north in a 2016 Nissan Rogue at approximately 4:30 p.m. when she slowed to make a left turn. A northbound 2011 Freightliner truck, driven by a 17-year-old, struck her vehicle.

The collision forced the Nissan Rogue off the western side of the roadway. Westfall suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Debris from the crash also struck a southbound Ford F-150 pickup, causing minor damage. The pickup’s driver was not injured, while the teenage truck driver sustained minor injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

FATAL SEMI-TRUCK ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal collision to establish the events that led to the crash and determine whether any contributing factors played a role.

In cases such as this, national legal analyst Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, emphasizes the importance of a thorough, independent investigation. Reviewing driver records, examining physical evidence, interviewing witnesses and evaluating applicable insurance policies may help clarify how a collision occurred and whether negligence contributed to the outcome.

Investigators may also need to assess vehicle damage, roadway conditions and the sequence of events before the impact. These findings can be important in understanding liability when a collision involves a passenger vehicle and a commercial truck.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Westfall’s eligible surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, depending on the investigation’s findings and applicable Ohio law.

National legal analyst Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, highlights the importance of protecting surviving relatives’ legal interests following a fatal accident. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation, explain available legal options and help families evaluate potential compensation for losses such as lost financial support, companionship and emotional suffering, where recoverable under applicable law.

Any potential claim would depend on the available evidence, the parties’ respective responsibilities and the circumstances established by the investigation. No determination of fault has been announced.
