Arthur Williams, 8, killed in Lowdermilk Street pedestrian crash

GREENSBORO, NC (October 27, 2026) An 8-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Lowdermilk Street in Greensboro on Tuesday evening.

Arthur Williams was involved in the fatal pedestrian collision at approximately 6:55 p.m., according to the Greensboro Police Department.

Authorities reported that a northbound Chrysler Sebring struck Williams as he ran across the roadway to join other children who were playing nearby.

Emergency responders transported the child to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police identified the driver as a 58-year-old Greensboro man. Following the collision, he reportedly faced charges involving driving with a revoked license, operating an uninsured vehicle, and having an expired vehicle registration and inspection.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal collision remain under investigation.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Greensboro Police Department continues to examine the circumstances that led to the deadly pedestrian collision involving Arthur Williams.

Investigators may consider several factors, including the driver’s actions before impact, the vehicle’s speed, roadway conditions, visibility, lighting, and whether the driver had sufficient time to recognize and avoid the child.

Preserving physical evidence, reviewing available surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and examining the vehicle can help investigators develop a clearer understanding of the events leading up to the crash.

According to a Governors Highway Safety Association report cited in the original coverage, 279 pedestrians were killed in North Carolina during 2024, with many others sustaining injuries.

National legal analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasizes the importance of conducting a thorough investigation in pedestrian accident cases. In cases such as this, determining whether a motorist had an opportunity to recognize a pedestrian and take preventive action can be an important part of evaluating the circumstances.

Bond also highlights the relevance of roadway design, lighting, visibility, and environmental conditions when examining a collision. Accident reconstruction specialists may help establish vehicle movements, impact circumstances, and other details that could clarify how an incident occurred.

Accident Injury News will continue to follow developments as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The death of Arthur Williams may raise questions about potential legal options available to his surviving family members.

National legal analyst Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, explains that motorists generally have a responsibility to exercise caution and watch for pedestrians sharing the roadway. Whether that responsibility was breached depends on the evidence and circumstances of the individual collision.

In cases such as this, a wrongful death claim may be considered if evidence establishes that negligence contributed to the fatal incident.

Depending on the applicable law and the circumstances, eligible family members may pursue compensation for funeral and burial expenses, loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other legally recoverable damages.

Formica also emphasizes the importance of protecting a family’s interests when dealing with insurance companies following a fatal accident. Insurers may seek an early settlement, making it important to understand the potential value of a claim before accepting an offer.

A comprehensive investigation and careful review of the available evidence can help determine whether a wrongful death claim is supported.
