Adrian Mateos Aguilar injured in Collin County crash, DPS says

COLLIN COUNTY, TX — October 8, 2026 Adrian Mateos Aguilar, a 23-year-old Dallas resident, suffered suspected serious injuries in a head-on collision involving a pickup truck and a passenger car on Farm-to-Market Road 1138 in Collin County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The crash occurred at approximately 7:05 p.m. Thursday as Aguilar traveled northbound in a 2016 Toyota Tacoma approaching Crowell Lane. A 2025 Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on FM 1138 when its driver entered the opposing lane and collided head-on with the pickup, according to preliminary information released by authorities.

The Hyundai’s driver, identified as 28-year-old Christian Samuel Lamoore Dean of Fate, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. Aguilar was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of suspected serious injuries.

Investigators have not disclosed why the Hyundai entered the wrong side of the roadway. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details about the events leading up to the crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the circumstances of the collision, including how the Hyundai entered the opposing lane and what factors may have contributed to the head-on impact.

A thorough crash investigation may involve reviewing the official collision report, examining vehicle damage, documenting roadway conditions, and gathering statements from witnesses. Investigators may also assess available photographs, physical evidence and other information that could help establish the sequence of events.

According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, 4,164 fatal wrong-way crashes occurred on U.S. divided highways between 2014 and 2023, resulting in 5,730 deaths. Although this statistic concerns divided highways specifically and does not establish the circumstances of the FM 1138 collision, it illustrates the potentially severe consequences of vehicles entering opposing traffic lanes.

Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has discussed the importance of examining the evidence surrounding serious vehicle collisions. In cases such as this, a comprehensive review can help clarify how a crash occurred and whether driver behavior, roadway conditions or other factors contributed to the incident.

Relevant evidence may include the investigating agency’s findings, witness accounts, vehicle inspection results and any available scene documentation. Reviewing these materials can help distinguish confirmed facts from unanswered questions while the investigation is ongoing.

The cause of this collision has not been established publicly. Authorities have not announced any findings regarding why the Hyundai crossed into the opposing lane.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Depending on the findings of the investigation and the circumstances established by the available evidence, a person injured in a motor vehicle collision may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim under applicable law.

Potentially recoverable damages in a qualifying case may include reasonable medical expenses, future treatment costs, lost income, diminished earning capacity and compensation for physical pain or emotional distress. The availability and amount of any recovery depend on the facts of the incident, the extent of the injuries, applicable law and evidence establishing responsibility.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, has addressed the financial and personal consequences that can follow serious accident injuries. In cases such as this, medical treatment, recovery time and interruptions to employment or daily activities may create substantial challenges for an injured person.

Documenting treatment, expenses, time away from work and the effects of an injury can be relevant when evaluating a potential claim. However, the existence of a collision alone does not establish legal liability, and any claim would depend on the evidence and applicable legal requirements.
