HERTFORD— Michael Revels, age 61, of Hertford, faces charges after a hit-and-run killed a 24-year-old woman Tuesday evening.
Authorities said the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on S. Edenton Road Street near Perquimans County High School. Revels was driving a burgundy Cadillac Escalade that struck the woman, who was on a skateboard, and left the scene.
Police located Revels later and charged him with felony hit-and-run. He also faces charges for having no insurance and using fictitious tags.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.

2049 people were killed by hit-and-run crashes in 2016 — a 62 percent increase from 2009, the last year in which a downward trend was recorded.
