Texas continues to face a devastating drunken driving crisis, with the Texas Department of Transportation reporting over 26,000 alcohol-related crashes in 2023 alone that resulted in more than 1,100 fatalities and thousands of injuries.

The state recorded a total of 1,138 fatalities in alcohol-involved crashes during 2023, cementing Texas’s position as the third-worst state in the nation for drunken driving.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that substances other than alcohol contribute to approximately 18 percent of motor vehicle driver fatalities in the U.S. Still, any psychoactive drug impairs driving ability, putting all others at risk.
