HOUSTON — A man faces intoxication manslaughter charges following a fatal crash that killed one woman and injured a passenger early Monday morning.
The crash occurred around 2:45 a.m. on Westpark Drive near S. Gessner Road.
Police said 30-year-old Wilian Lopez Fonseca was driving a white Chevrolet Impala at high speed when he lost control. The vehicle failed to maintain a single lane and slammed into a Ford F-450 tow truck traveling westbound.
Fonseca and his front-seat passenger sustained minor injuries. A female backseat passenger died at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. Her identity remains pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The tow truck occupants were not injured.
Police believe the Chevrolet was racing a pink Infiniti Q50 found abandoned near the scene. Investigators estimate the car traveled 120 to 140 miles per hour based on impact force.
The incident remains under investigation.
