GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Authorities continue to investigate a fatal motorcycle crash that happened May 6 on Old Cornelia Highway at Jesse Jewell Parkway. The Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene and is leading the investigation.
Troopers said that at around 7:45 a.m., a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by a 57-year-old female from Gillsville, turned left in front of an eastbound motorcycle. The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle, and the Chevrolet ran over him.
Victor Vega, 54, suffered fatal injuries. Emergency responders transported him to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Officials reported that he was a teacher and assistant coach at East Hall High School.
Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities have not announced formal charges.

The latest data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that 6,335 motorcyclists were killed in traffic accidents in 2023, representing 15% of all traffic fatalities. This marks a 1.3% increase compared to 2022. The fatality rate for motorcyclists was nearly 28 times higher than that of passenger car occupants.
