DANVILLE, Ill. — A 20-year-old Danville man turned himself in to police June 10 after allegedly striking a 4-year-old child and fleeing the scene.
Danville police were called to the 1600 block of Edgewood Drive at around 7:45 p.m. for a child who had been struck by a motor vehicle.
Family members had already transported the 4-year-old victim to a local hospital before police arrived. The child was listed as stable but later transferred to a hospital in Urbana.
A witness described a red SUV being driven recklessly before hitting the child. The witness said the driver then fled from the scene.
Police located the vehicle unoccupied about two blocks away.
At around 10:50 p.m., Tyran A. Coe arrived at the Public Safety Building. He turned himself in to Danville Police. Officers booked Coe at the Vermilion County Jail. He faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident and aggravated reckless driving.
The child’s identity was not disclosed.
