HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point police arrested a suspected impaired driver who struck five pedestrians at Skeet Club Road and Braddock Road on July 2.
Tristan Wiles, 34, of Colfax faces multiple felony charges after hitting the victims with his vehicle. A 6-year-old child died from injuries sustained in the crash on July 7. The child’s family notified police of the death at the hospital.
Four other victims survived the hit-and-run incident. One adult and three children were released from the hospital after treatment. All victims suffered serious injuries in the collision.
Police arrested Wiles near the crash scene following the incident. Officers charged him with driving while impaired and felony hit-and-run. Additional charges include four counts of felony hit-and-run serious injury and four counts of felony hit-and-run injury by vehicle.
Wiles also faces charges for failure to maintain lane control and failure to wear a seat belt. Police discovered drug paraphernalia in his possession during the arrest.
A judge set Wiles’ bond at $1 million during his court appearance. The High Point Police Department continues investigating the fatal crash. Investigators expect to file additional charges as the case against him progresses.
