BEECH ISLAND, S.C. — Authorities are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on May 15 at 8:40 p.m. at Old Jackson Highway and Sheraton Drive. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office confirmed that two people died from injuries related to the accident.
Syntavion Priester, 21, was a rear-seat passenger in a 2014 Ford Fusion when the vehicle sped away from a traffic stop on Sheraton Drive. The driver ran a red light at the intersection and struck a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban traveling south on Old Jackson Highway.
Emergency responders transported Priester to Wellstar MCG Health for treatment. Officials said he succumbed to his injuries on May 27.
Another passenger in the Fusion, a 16-year-old Elko boy, also died from injuries suffered in the accident. Officials confirmed the identities of both victims.
Authorities continue to review details surrounding the accident and its contributing factors.
