BEEVILLE, TX, (May 01, 2026) — Sherry Edwards, 71, of Mathis, died Friday evening following a multi-vehicle crash involving a transit bus in Bee County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Authorities said the crash occurred just before 5 p.m. along U.S. Highway 59 near County Road 330.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup traveling northbound lost control on rain-slick pavement and crossed into the southbound lanes, where it collided with an Eldo bus operated by the Rural Economic Assistance League, Inc. A Nissan Altima was also forced off the roadway while attempting to avoid the collision.
Edwards, who was a passenger on the bus, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Christus Spohn Hospital in Beeville, where she later died at approximately 6:30 p.m. A 58-year-old woman from Conroe, who was riding in the pickup truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The drivers of both the Dodge Ram and the bus, along with several passengers, were taken to area hospitals for medical evaluation. The driver of the Nissan Altima was not injured.
DPS troopers believe that the pickup driver was traveling at an unsafe speed given the wet road conditions. The investigation remains ongoing.
