Sherry Edwards dies after pickup collides with bus in Beeville, DPS says

BEEVILLE, TX, (May 01, 2026) — Sherry Edwards, 71, of Mathis, died Friday evening following a multi-vehicle crash involving a transit bus in Bee County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Authorities said the crash occurred just before 5 p.m. along U.S. Highway 59 near County Road 330.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup traveling northbound lost control on rain-slick pavement and crossed into the southbound lanes, where it collided with an Eldo bus operated by the Rural Economic Assistance League, Inc. A Nissan Altima was also forced off the roadway while attempting to avoid the collision.

Edwards, who was a passenger on the bus, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Christus Spohn Hospital in Beeville, where she later died at approximately 6:30 p.m. A 58-year-old woman from Conroe, who was riding in the pickup truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of both the Dodge Ram and the bus, along with several passengers, were taken to area hospitals for medical evaluation. The driver of the Nissan Altima was not injured.

DPS troopers believe that the pickup driver was traveling at an unsafe speed given the wet road conditions. The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Rainy conditions greatly heighten the chances of accidents, as water reduces tire grip, increases braking distances, and may lead to hydroplaning. Even light rainfall can bring oil and debris to the road surface, making it slick and hazardous.

Drivers frequently underestimate how much they need to slow down or adjust their driving, and even minor actions—such as abrupt braking or oversteering—can result in a loss of control.

“Roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting are among the factors that must be carefully reviewed when investigating a crash,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In certain cases, accident reconstruction experts are necessary to determine exactly how the incident unfolded. These resources play a key role in helping victims or their families pursue compensation for damages or losses after a collision,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Sherry Edwards may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and pain and suffering following a tragic accident.

“The emotional impact after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face during such difficult times, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help ensure that the family’s interests are properly represented,” Formica added.
