Scott and Jennifer Christofferson die in Raleigh rollover bus wreck

RALEIGH, NC (July 4, 2026) — A married couple was killed Saturday afternoon after a two-vehicle collision involving a passenger car and a shuttle bus in Raleigh, according to police.

Authorities said the crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Lumley Road when a Nissan Altima allegedly ran a red light and struck a Fast Park RDU shuttle bus. The impact caused the shuttle bus to roll over.

Scott Christofferson, 48, and Jennifer Christofferson, 45, were passengers aboard the shuttle bus and were pronounced dead following the collision.

Police said the couple’s child and the driver of the Nissan were transported to a local hospital with injuries. The shuttle bus driver was not hurt.

The 70-year-old driver of the Nissan has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of death by vehicle, reckless driving causing serious injuries, a red-light violation, no operator’s license, and unsafe tires.

The Raleigh Police Department continues to investigate the fatal crash.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Impaired drivers continue to pose a serious threat to everyone using the nation’s roadways and can have devastating consequences for victims and their families.

“Drunken and drugged drivers are subject to criminal charges following an accident or collision that causes harm or kills another person,” explained Candice Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

She added, “Separate from criminal charges, a victim’s family may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party.”

According to the National Safety Council, 10 percent of all fatal automobile accidents are caused by drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other medications. These crashes remain the second-leading cause of automobile fatalities in the United States.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of a victim could be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and grief that follow the loss of a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand the hardships families are forced to endure, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will continue to monitor the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests remain protected,” Formica added.
