BESSEMER, AL, (June 30, 2026) – Two people died Tuesday evening after the car they were traveling in was struck by an Amtrak train in Bessemer.
According to police, 69-year-old Robert Earl Scott was allegedly behind the wheel when the crash occurred at approximately 5:29 p.m. near the intersection of 32nd Street and Carolina Avenue. Both Scott and his passenger, whose identity has not been released, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Responding officers found that the railroad crossing arms were down and the signal lights were actively flashing at the time of the crash.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
