North Carolina sees significant numbers of scooter and moped accidents annually, with concerning injury and fatality rates. According to state data, there were 656 moped accidents resulting in 25 fatalities and 571 injuries. Motor scooters and motorbikes were involved in 173 accidents, resulting in nine deaths and 154 injuries.

These statistics reveal that nearly 9 out of 10 moped and scooter crashes result in injuries, making them far more dangerous than passenger vehicles. The fatality rate, while lower than motorcycles, still ranges significantly higher than the fatality rate for passenger cars.
