Pedestrian Jamee Weber dies in Palo Alto County collision

PALO ALTO, IA, (November 21, 2025) – A 35-year-old pedestrian died Friday evening following a multi-vehicle collision near Mallard in Palo Alto County, officials said. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a Ram 1500 pickup traveling east on 440th Street struck a stopped vehicle near 470th Avenue at about 5:20 p.m.

A pedestrian at the scene, identified as Jamee Weber of West Bend, was critically injured and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. A third vehicle was also involved, though details about its role were not initially released. A passenger in one of the cars suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, while the pickup driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Despite legal protections, pedestrians remain the most vulnerable users of roads throughout the country. Each year, many pedestrians are seriously hurt or killed by drivers who are distracted, impaired, or who disregard roadway warnings.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), an estimated 7,148 pedestrians were killed on U.S. roads in 2024, including 32 in Iowa.

The GHSA noted that the rise in pedestrian deaths has been influenced by dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, impairment, distraction, and by roadway designs that often prioritize vehicles over pedestrians.

“Having the right investigative resources is essential in examining a pedestrian accident and establishing negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Factors like road conditions, lighting, and visibility must all be reviewed,” added Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“Accident reconstruction experts are sometimes called upon to determine exactly what took place. These tools play an important role in helping clients obtain compensation after a pedestrian accident,” said Bond, who is also a national legal analyst with Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Jamee Weber may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other damages after a tragic incident like this.

“The emotional burden can be extremely heavy after losing someone in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and ensuring that their rights are protected is crucial. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and work to safeguard the family’s best interests.”

“An attorney can help shield families from insurance companies while thoroughly examining the circumstances of the crash. Legal advocates work to ensure the rights of grieving families are upheld and that they receive the support they need.”
