Noah Inman tragically killed in Duplin County hit-and-run accident

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

North Carolina has the 4th highest hit-and-run crash rate in the U.S. at 5.34 accidents per 100,000 licensed drivers, which is 224% above the national average according to a 2025 Kitchel Law study. The state averaged 73.4 hit-and-run crashes per year from 2018-2022, with N.C. Department of Transportation data showing 11,731 hit-and-run crashes in 2020 alone, resulting in 62 fatalities and 5,607 injuries.

Hit-and-run penalties range from misdemeanor convictions with fines up to $5,000 for minimal injuries to felony charges with fines up to $10,000 and potential jail time of 30 days to 10 years for severe injuries, according to state law.
