SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office are investigating a fatal wrong-way crash that killed three people early June 8 on Interstate 85.
The multi-vehicle collision occurred around 12:15 a.m. near milepost 75 when a 2015 Honda sedan traveling the wrong way struck a 2019 Toyota sedan head-on.
The Honda driver and two occupants of the Toyota were pronounced dead following the head-on collision. The coroner identified one victim as Nicholas Sinclair Young, 36. The identities of the other two victims have not been disclosed.
The Honda also struck a 2024 Ford Expedition during the crash sequence. The Ford’s driver and five passengers were not injured in the collision.
Troopers continue investigating the circumstances that led to the wrong-way driving incident.
