DES PLAINES, Ill. — Authorities are investigating a two-vehicle accident that killed one woman on June 1, officials said. The Des Plaines Police Department responded just before midnight to Algonquin Road and Leslie Lane for a report of a crash.
A 28-year-old woman driving a Toyota Prius was heading eastbound on Algonquin Road near Leslie Lane when her vehicle struck the rear of a Volvo tractor-trailer, reports said. Officers found her passenger with severe leg injuries.
Nazly Rodriguez-Munoz, 49, was bleeding heavily when police arrived. Officers applied a tourniquet before paramedics transported her to the hospital, where she succumbed to injuries.
The Prius driver told police the tractor-trailer was parked with no lights on. The truck driver stated he was traveling slowly on Algonquin Road.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
