CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash on June 8.
North Division officers responded to the intersection of Oakdale Road and Auten Road for a vehicle collision with injuries call just after 1 p.m. Officers found an unresponsive male rider in the roadway upon arrival.
Police located a damaged dirt bike and a damaged Ford truck at the scene.
Officers said that Mike Malanda, 12, was riding the dirt bike when he was struck by the Ford truck. MEDIC pronounced the boy dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Malanda was riding the dirt bike on the road when the collision occurred.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to conduct their investigation. The Charlotte Fire Department also responded.
Police have notified Malanda’s next of kin of his death.
The investigation remains ongoing and active. CMPD’s Public Affairs Division will release further information as it develops.
