SCHLATTERVILLE, Ga. — The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a multi-vehicle crash May 19 along U.S. Highway 82 that claimed three lives. The collision occurred at around 11:10 p.m. .
GSP said a 93-year-old man driving a 1998 Ford XLT traveled west in the eastbound inside lane. He struck a 2006 Ford Taurus traveling eastbound. The impact sent the Taurus spinning into the outside eastbound lane, where a 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer hit it.
Michael Byrd, 20, was driving the Taurus when the accident occurred. His passenger, a 19-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Authorities pronounced the Ford XLT’s driver dead at the scene. Byrd was transported to a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, where he died early May 20.
Officials said a 17-year-old surviving passenger from Byrd’s vehicle was not publicly identified. Authorities have not released additional details.
