AURORA, Colo. — The Aurora Police Department is investigating a pursuit-related crash on May 31 that left a teenage boy with serious injuries.
Police officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle headed west on Mississippi Avenue near Chambers Road. The driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit through Denver and Glendale.
At around 5:45 p.m., the fleeing driver crashed into another car near Leetsdale Drive and S. Cherry Street. Kaelen Shea, 16, was one of four teens inside the unrelated vehicle. Shea suffered serious injuries, including fractures to his jaw and sinus plates, multiple brain bleeds, and swelling.
EMS transported Shea and the other occupants for medical treatment. Police did not release details about the conditions of the other three teens in the vehicle.
The fleeing driver, a 26-year-old man, was arrested at the scene. He is facing charges of vehicular assault and driving under the influence.
Investigators continue gathering details about the incident.
