MEMPHIS, TN, (April 23, 2026) – A woman was killed Thursday night after being struck by an alleged impaired driver while standing beside her disabled vehicle on Union Avenue in Memphis, police reported.
According to authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. when a vehicle driven by 67-year-old Daniel Thomas struck the unidentified woman.
Investigators said the victim’s vehicle had become inoperable, and witnesses indicated she had activated her hazard lights while standing nearby.
Officers at the scene reported that Thomas admitted to consuming a large amount of alcohol, and they noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from him.
Thomas was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, public intoxication, reckless driving, and driving without a license or insurance.
The investigation remains ongoing.
