Justin Hall, Fernando Olivas hurt in Winkler County crash

WINKLER, TX, (March 24, 2026) — Two Odessa men, Justin Michael Hall and Fernando Pando Olivas, were injured Tuesday night in a four-vehicle crash in Winkler County that also claimed one life, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities said a Ford Ranger crossed into the eastbound lane of Texas 302 near milepost 336 at about 9 p.m. and collided with a Peterbilt tractor-trailer. Additional vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction crash, and the Ranger later caught fire.

Hall and Olivas sustained minor injuries and were transported to Winkler County Hospital. The Ranger’s driver, a 19-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Numerous factors contribute to the rise in traffic fatalities, but driver behavior—such as speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving, particularly due to cellphone use—remains a primary concern. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

As investigators work to determine fault in this case, Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, stressed the importance of conducting an independent investigation.

“In addition to the work carried out by law enforcement, an attorney can revisit the scene, re-interview witnesses, review surveillance footage, and obtain phone and text records from the involved parties,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Acting quickly is critical to ensure that all relevant evidence is preserved and carefully reviewed.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, victims may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, noted that the aftermath of a serious injury can affect every aspect of a person’s life, including their health, finances, and emotional well-being.

“It is important for victims to seek legal representation when filing a personal injury claim, as an attorney can negotiate with insurance companies on their behalf,” Bond said.

“Insurance companies often attempt to settle claims quickly for less than their full value. An attorney will advocate for the victim to ensure fair treatment and appropriate compensation.”
