Suffolk County motorcycle crash claims life of Joseph Herman

SUFFOLK, NY, – Authorities report that a motorcycle accident Sunday evening on the Southern State Parkway claimed the life of a 36-year-old Amityville man.

Joseph Herman collided with an Acura MDX while attempting a lane change near the Straight Path exits at approximately 7:51 p.m. Herman was ejected from his motorcycle and struck by another motorcycle. He was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital, where he later died.

State Police continue to investigate the crash.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney, most motorcycle accidents are preventable and often caused by negligent drivers of passenger vehicles.

In 2023, 6,335 motorcyclists were killed in accidents, accounting for 15 percent of all traffic fatalities, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This represents the highest number of motorcyclists killed since at least 1975.

Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, noted that in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent investigation into the crash conducted by a seasoned lawyer to protect the rights of a victim’s family.

“Motorcyclists are arguably the most vulnerable motorists on the road, and several factors can play a role in fatal crashes,” Bond said. “Blind spots, inexperienced drivers, and distracted motorists often cause these types of collisions. An attorney has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct drivers’ background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage, while carefully guiding the grieving family of the victim through the legal process and vigorously protecting their best interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Joseph Herman may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand exactly what families must endure, and protecting their rights is vital,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their best interests are safeguarded.”
