KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 61-year-old construction worker was killed June 25 after being struck by an SUV in the Northland.
Joseph R. Caldwell died after being hit near N.W. Barry Road and N. Boardwalk Avenue around 10:40 a.m. The Kansas City Police Department responded.
According to preliminary investigation, an SUV was traveling west on Barry when it struck Caldwell. The driver fled the scene immediately after hitting the construction worker.
Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene within minutes of the collision.
The SUV driver was apprehended shortly after the crash occurred. Police have since released the driver pending further investigation into the fatal accident. They indicated it could take several weeks before a case file is completed.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration launched a separate investigation into the workplace fatality. OSHA investigators examined the construction zone where Caldwell was killed.
