Jasper man killed in Evergreen Road pedestrian collision in Webster Co

WEBSTER, MO (March 28, 2026) – A 26-year-old man from Jasper died Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a roadway in Webster County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:46 p.m. on Evergreen Road east of Strafford. The pedestrian was crossing the roadway when he was hit by an eastbound 2016 Ford Focus.

The victim was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, where he later died from his injuries.

The 17-year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The Webster County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Many people rely on walking for transportation, but data from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) shows that pedestrian travel has become increasingly dangerous in recent years, leading to significant loss and hardship.

Drivers are required to yield to pedestrians in both marked and unmarked crosswalks at intersections. Motorists can also use headlights when legally permitted to improve visibility and better detect pedestrians near roadways.

According to a GHSA report, 142 pedestrians were killed in Missouri in 2024, marking an increase of nearly 11 percent from the previous year.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Factors such as roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting must all be carefully reviewed,” Bond added.

“An accident reconstruction team may be necessary to determine exactly what occurred. These resources are critical in helping victims or their families pursue compensation,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is generally the responsibility of drivers to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of the victim may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Families who lose a loved one in a tragic accident may seek compensation for loss of income, companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress,” Formica said.

An attorney can provide compassionate guidance during this difficult time while ensuring that the family’s legal rights are protected.

“Insurance companies often attempt to settle claims quickly for far less than their true value,” Formica added. “An attorney will advocate on behalf of the family to ensure fair compensation and proper representation.”
