HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A small plane crash killed six people on June 29 when the aircraft plummeted into a wooded area shortly after takeoff.
The twin-engine Cessna 441 went down around 7 a.m. near Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. The crash occurred a few miles from the airport in Howland Township, about 20 miles east of Akron.
There were no survivors in the accident, the Western Reserve Port Authority said during a Sunday press conference. The Trumbull County Coroner’s Office identified all six victims on Monday.
James Weller, 67, died in the crash along with his wife, a 68-year-old woman, their son, a 26-year-old man, and his wife, a 34-year-old woman. The family was headed to Montana on vacation.
Pilot and co-pilot Joseph Maxin, 63, and Timothy Blake, 55, also perished in the crash. The plane crashed into a backyard of a home two miles from the airport.
Personnel from the Howland Fire Department and Youngstown Air Reserve Station responded to the scene and put out the fire. Trumbull County hazmat teams contained and cleaned up fuel that spilled from the wreckage.
