Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate the incident.

Although drivers are typically required to yield to pedestrians, those on foot still encounter significant risks on roadways. The Governors Highway Safety Association estimated 6,721 pedestrian fatalities in 2020, marking a 4.8% increase from 2019.

“In most situations, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing streets or intersections, even if they are not within a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.
