Hon Cuong Quach dies in Queens collision near 25th Avenue NY

ASTORIA, NY, (May 13, 2026) – A 59-year-old man, Hon Cuong Quach, was killed in a pedestrian crash on May 13 in Astoria, according to the New York Police Department.

Authorities said the incident occurred a few blocks west of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway near 25th Avenue when a westbound sedan lost control after the driver reportedly experienced an acute medical emergency. The vehicle then veered off the roadway and struck a pedestrian along with several parked vehicles.

Police stated that Quach was in the vicinity of the crossing at the time of the collision. Emergency responders provided aid at the scene before transporting him to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The elderly driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers from the 114th Precinct following the crash. No charges have been announced as the investigation continues.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Every year, thousands of pedestrians lose their lives on U.S. roadways. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, approximately 3,304 pedestrians were struck and killed in the first half of 2024 alone.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and roadway lighting are all potential contributing factors that must be thoroughly examined. These elements are essential in helping families pursue justice after a tragic loss,” Bond added.

“An accident reconstruction team is often needed to piece together the sequence of events. These resources are critical in helping families recover compensation for damages or losses following a collision,” she said, a national legal analyst with Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of a victim may be entitled to a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of income, companionship, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident,” Formica said.

He added that legal support can help families through the difficult aftermath of a fatal crash.

“Insurance companies often attempt to pressure victims into accepting quick settlements that may not reflect the full value of a case,” Formica noted. “However, an attorney will vigorously advocate to ensure families are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
