WAUZEKA, MI, (April 26, 2026) – A 68-year-old woman was seriously injured Sunday morning in a hit-and-run crash while walking her dog in Wauzeka, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 8:41 a.m. along Rhein Hollow Road when a pedestrian and her dog were struck by a green 1996 Chevrolet Blazer. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.
The victim, Katherine Oswald of Wauzeka, sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for emergency treatment. Her dog was also injured in the crash.
Investigators later identified the driver as 31-year-old Donovan Bruns of Wauzeka. Officials said Bruns fled to Iowa, where he allegedly attempted to conceal and alter the vehicle. He was subsequently located and arrested.
Bruns faces multiple felony charges, including first-degree recklessly endangering safety, reckless driving causing great bodily harm, duty upon striking a person, and felony obstruction. Formal charges are pending.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
